Reading Psalms

What has God been revealing to you in your reading?

  1. Psalms 1-4: That He is my Refuge, Safety and Shield and to delight in Him.

  2. Psalm 5-10. A couple things popped out to me. One was David asking the Lord to judge him according to his righteousness and integrity. In this way I can see how he was a man after His own heart by the way he left himself open before God. Then, just pondering about "what is man that You are mindful of him?" that He loves us so extravagantly. Then the last two verses of Psalm 10. God does hear us and "man who is of the earth will strike terror no more." There is so much hope to be found in God. He is a refuge!

  3. What I am enjoying most about reading the Psalms is that I am starting and ending my day in God's word. I am finding it easier to stay focused on God throughout the day. In addition, I have been working on active listening based on last week's sermon. The combination of these activities is providing a closer walk with God and a greater responsiveness to His promptings.

Here is an example which has led to this posting. When I was driving home last night God revealed to me that I was likely coming across as a jerk (my word...) about the whole skype thing, and that my fellow students deserved an explanation. So here it is...

In short, I do not want to commit to something I can not fulfill. While in Hong Kong my day will just be starting when WSOM class is starting. My only skype option is in my HK office with the entire office staff. From a space, time and logistical perspective, it is just not feasible to skype during the class.

I will miss hearing everyone's thoughts, etc. while I am away and look forward to connecting again on Nov 17th.

    Thanks for "listening"...Joe

  4. Thanks for explaining and it was nice to hear from you Joe. I will miss you already and I am praying for you as you deal with being away from the family. Here's some thoughts on what I have come across in my reading from my last post through Ps 24:
    1. I confess that it is nice to have the Psalms short yet packed with good stuff. I continue to see Him as my refuge, protector, salvation.
    2. Psalm 14:1 reminded me of man's pride. I see it all around me.
    3. I read Psalm 15 to my family. I was amazed! What an encouragement to do these things and not be shaken!
    4. Ps 18:26 gave me new understanding as to how an unbeliever sees God. v30 God is my shield when I take refuge in him.
    5. Ps 19. All the things described as 'of the Lord'.. perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, true..
    6. Ps 20:7.. a good memory verse. Will you trust in the power of man or of God!
    7. Ps 21:11. Evil will not succeed. The Lord is our strength!
    8. Ps 23. Not just for funerals! v6 is a song that I used to sing. Just sang it. You should've been here!
    9. Ps 24. Jesus is the King of Glory! Amen!
